Gauzes
Gauzes or pipe screens as they are also known are an integral part of using a bong or pipe. The small but crucial gauze is placed in the bowl of the pipe or bong, and makes a bed for the tobacco to sit on. Gauzes are multi use, but will need to be replaced after a few times. Gauzes come in either steel or brass material. The steel versions are tough so are easy to shape and bend to fit your bowl nicely
These can scratch glass and acrylic though, so do be mindful when making your choice.
The brass versions are gentler and tend not to scratch your pipe or bong, however they do burn out quicker than their steel counterparts as they can’t stand as high temperatures. This means you will have to buy more regularly.
Gauzes (aka pipe screens) come in a variation of sizes, measured in millimetres. This means that you can find a gauze that is going to fit comfortably into your bowl with little manipulation. All in all, a gauze is there to aid the burning of your tobacco.
Conical gauzes have a brass rim but are made from steel, so combine the gentleness of brass with the toughness and durability of steel. Perfect if you can’t make your mind up!
